Globalstar Names Four to Position of Vice PresidentSan Jose, Calif., December 18, 1997 — Globalstar, LP (NASDAQ: GSTRF) announced today the appointment of four new vice presidents as the company gears up for the start of commercial service in early 1999. Among those promoted is Dr. John Serri, who has been named vice president of Globalstar's information services group. In this capacity, Dr. Serri ensures that Globalstar's departments and operations groups have the systems support needed to meet their technical and business objectives. Further, Dr. Serri oversees the day-to-day operations and maintenance of Globalstar's local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN). With a doctorate in Physics from MIT, Dr. Serri comes to Globalstar with over 15 years experience in telecommunications and systems development. Prior to joining Globalstar in 1994 as manager of ground operations control, Dr. Serri worked for Loral Western Development Labs and Bell Laboratories. As vice president of space systems engineering, Ms. Megan Fitzgerald is responsible for the development, production and operation of the Globalstar space segment. This includes the manufacture of the system's satellites, the procurement of launch services, oversight of Globalstar's Satellite Operations Control Center, and management of satellite launch and mission operations to establish and maintain Globalstar's constellation of low-earth-orbit satellites. Prior to joining Globalstar in 1994 as manager, space segment, Ms. Fitzgerald spent eleven years with Lockheed Missiles and Space Company in both engineering management and business development roles. She holds an MS in civil engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. As vice president of telecommunications systems engineering, Dr. Michael Sites is responsible for development of the Globalstar ground segment. This includes the Ground Operations Control Center, the accounting and billing system, gateway earth stations, mobile and fixed telephones and other subscriber products, and implementation of network architectures to support global roaming and other services. Prior to joining Globalstar in 1993 as manager of ground systems, Dr. Sites spent 17 years with Loral Western Development Labs as a program manager for state-of-the art satellite communications systems and equipment. Dr. Sites holds a doctorate in electrical engineering from Stanford University, where he taught electrical engineering for seven years before joining Loral. Mr. Reid Stephenson, who joined Globalstar in 1995 as the director of market development operations, has 20 years of international marketing experience from positions at Apple Computer International, Sprint International, and Motorola's Iridium. As vice president of marketing, his responsibilities include managing all of Globalstar's corporate marketing programs in conjunction with its worldwide partners and service providers. These programs include support for the recruitment of local service providers and service licensing, advertising, the development of global branding and distribution channels, and all end user programs. Mr. Stephenson holds an MBA from Northwestern University. The $2.6 billion Globalstar system, comprised of 48 low-earth-orbiting satellites and a global network of ground stations, will allow people in areas that lack or are currently underserved by existing wireline and cellular telecommunications systems, to make or receive calls from virtually anywhere on Earth. Globalstar will also provide data transmission, paging, facsimile and position location services to global travelers through dual-mode (cellular-satellite) handsets.
